Gel Food Recipes
One thing I love to do for my fin babes, is make my own homemade gel food. Being able to provide them with quality produce, nutrient rich foods and sepcific dietry needs is something I thoroughly enjoy. Not only is it cheap, but it provides them with a quality diet too. Not bad, ey!?
Here is a selection of my recipes, which are catered for the needs of my guys - Some are sensitive to Gelatine (which can be used in the place of Agar Agar) so I use Agar Agar. Dandelions have also improved buoyancy issues in some of my fish, so it's a bit of a staple in this house!
I make a minimum of 3 of theese gels and store them together, so the Goldfish have a few bites of a few different gels per feeding, to enable me to give them a more thorough and varied diet

Method
All ingredients are steamed/boiled/blanched (aside from frozen treats such as bloodworm, Daphnia, mosquito larvae and avocado). I then blend them and add water theyve been boiled in to form a liquid.
Agar Agar is melted into hot water (as oer packet instructions, dosage too - for me it's around 3tbsp per litre of liquid) and added to the mix before being given a final blitz.
I use Vitachem or Vitazin (or a crushed multivitamin without iron) to increase the nutritional content, and a couple of cloves of garlic are added too.
The liquid is then poured onto a shallow tray and placed into the fridge to set. Once set, I cut into bitesized cubes and freeze in batches.
It will keep sealed in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
